"Houston, we have a problem"- egh!

Oh my, this is a problem for me :(  I wear my stilettos all the time and I love them!    So I am really going to have to make some decisions, flats while running, or no running?  And I am sadly going to have to side with the flats for now (at least most days).  I have been praying and I am so motivated by running that I am not ready to give it up, so as I train for distance the heels will be placed to the side I guess.  Maybe, this pain in my lower leg will also subside! HA!  After much research and talking with some pros, I may very well have a stress fracture at my medial tibia.  Yuck.  I am slowing down for now and doing some cross training to strengthen my calf and ankle and hopefully prevent this from happening again. So yeah, the stilettos probably aren't helping.  But I won't give up on them, they are too much fun and I will wear them again! Ha!

New in the New Year:2011

My new this week is a new I- Pod App! So now my running has evolved into a full on scheduled training, and it's funny because I am still not training for anything specific or even know if I will.  I am just doing it because I love it! I enjoy the freedom and quiet time that I have during my runs.  So now, it's running and cross training.  I have been using the Nike Training App for Women, recommended by Marge, thx girl!  And it is kicking my but! Let's just say I am not sure running  uses all of your muscles!  There are some new ones I didn't know were even there! Ha! But it really is great, it keeps me moving and interested and it is far from boring!  And the best part its a free App! Love it! And I also have to report that this past week I ran my fastest mile pace, less than 11 minutes!  Thanks God!

Try the app if you are up for a challenge!  Let me know what you think!

The Look

We all know what "the look" is; whether someone is mad and gives it to you, or wants something, or is making sad eyes at you... it can literally be anything and it is different for us all, but we know we are getting it nonetheless.  This is "the look" that says "seriously, I do not have time for this; there are toys to be played with and rugs & pillows to destroy!  Why are you bothering me"  Ha!  I know you probably think I am crazy, but this is definitely "the look"!  Little Maggie, mistress of destruction and games!  Who would have thought this cute little face could do all that she does and get away with so much! Ha! What were we thinking.... and Beanie & Roxy I know think the same think because they constantly give the " what were you thinking" Look when Maggie enters the room! Ha!   But we love her, who could resist those eyes and ears?

Then & Now

Last year around this time, I was so glad to be making a career change!  I couldn't wait to get away from patient care.  I was tired, burnt, spent and just felt so over it all.  This picture with my friend Rachel was my last shift in the MICU.  It snowed that day, a lot... remember all of that snow we got on the East coast... 3 foot or something crazy... well I am ashamed to admit that being my last day I was so focused on not having to stay overnight at the hospital because of the snow.  It was all about me, it's my last day and this is just not fair and blah blah blah.   What a horrible attitude, how did I let my nursing get so far gone at that point?  And where is it now...

This year, today about 1 year later, I am missing those times so much.  What I thought was the answers to my prayers, has become the farthest thing from that.  I am a nurse, but right now I don't even feel like being called that is appropriate.  It's funny how we change, how things change...  I never thought I'd miss the bedside, but wow do I ever.  Helping people is a special gift, one that I am just not currently using.  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind what I do now and I like the people I work with, especially my  project team, but when you aren't doing what your heart seems to be telling you to do, it is a struggle.   I feel a strong sense of accountability to the project I am working on, so for now I am pushing ahead.  But I know that I am to be doing more then this, making a difference...

Last night was the MICU post holiday party, I had a new finance class starting so I couldn't make it.  It's probably better though, because just being in the MICU is hard, and I miss it more when I am there because I miss the clinical aspect so much.  It's like being away from your home, your family, yourself...

Snowy Day Pot Roast: mmm mmm good!

A simple serving for one, that's lasts all week!  Ha!  The other day I went into work late for some meetings because of the snowfall we had overnight.  Before I left, I put this together in our crock for later that evening!  And yes I still have some, and yes it was delish!  This year I have been trying to prep my meals on the weekend and have them last through the week for dinner/lunch and substitute sandwiches and salad for when I am so so sick of eating the same thing- which is pretty often! Ha!  I love variety, especially when it comes to eating!  So far I have done well, but I can feel by the time wednesday approaches I am definitely ready for soemthing new!

With my running I am trying to maintain  healthier eating and better placement of carbs pre and post my run (thats what I have read).  Having my meals prepared in advance helps me to get home, eat, let it settle, run... you get the point.    Anyway, tonight it's a chicken, rice, & veggie casserole.  I'll let you know how it goes!
